When my physician told me to order a “happy light” to improve my mood, I was sceptical.
After researching my options, I settled on a travel sized light. Little did I know that by just using it for 20-30 minutes a day, my mood would actually improve.
“Happy lights” emit specific light that boosts all those happy little hormones and chemicals, like dopamine & seratonin. For those of us who live in cloudy cities like Rochester, this is especially beneficial!
There are many different brands of light around. Make sure you choose one with at least 10,000 LUX. Place the light in your peripheral vision for at least 30 minutes a day. Use it while reading, watching TV or scrolling through Facebook. Don’t use it in the evening, as that light can disrupt sleep.
Give it a try. What do you have to loose?
